Craig Melling joined Rotary because he wanted to make a difference.  He certainly does that.  A financier by profession Rotary and his early morning starts for our meetings are a welcome respite in the hum drum.   ‘I had tried the other networking events and frankly they were a drag. Rotary is different and we make a difference.’

Frank Vaughan is a British Army veteran and has seen more active service than he cares to remember. Thankfully for Rotary Leeds White Rose members he shares it with us with entertaining consequences. He was honoured for his service in the Queen’s birthday honours.

Since leaving the Army he has enjoyed a varied and successful career in the justice sector, the health service, working with children with special needs and a charity for supporting the homeless. He has numerous qualifications, including a Masters’ in Business Management. An ex-player and ardent supporter of Rugby Union, Frank considers himself fortunate in both his professional and personal life.

With so many friends already Rotarians it seemed churlish not to join in the fun. The beauty of Rotary for me is I can meet like minded business people who share my passion and commitment to ethical business to benefit the community in which we operate. I run a small PR agency and having a CSR policy is easier being inspired and supported by Rotary and Rotarians.

“I joined Rotary 6 months ago to help worthwhile causes and make a difference to local and international communities. I was warmly welcomed in to the leeds White Rose Rotary club by a bunch of lovely people who are like minded and want to make a positive impact on the community. The events organised to support the deserving causes are great and extremely fun at the same time. Breakfast meetings every week are a good way to start the day with a talk from an inspirational person.”

So, I’m now a Rotarian. It has taken a while – I’ve been attending the Wednesday sessions of Leeds White Rose for a few months now. I’ve learned about various worthwhile community support groups from some fantastic people, I’ve learned about David Bowie, Recycling and Energy Conservation, Inflation in Zimbabwe – I’ve even learned about Stewart Golton’s fashion tips (don’t ask – just smile when you see his choice of summer shirts). More than that though, I’ve learned about – and met – a bunch of individuals who are a pleasure to get involved with.

The Leeds White Rose Rotary Club is a diverse, enthusiastic, fun loving group of professionals who roll up their sleeves and give of their time and expertise to raise funds and provide guidance for deserving causes.
That’s good enough for me. The opportunity to meet interesting people, get involved and have some fun, but also at the same time to help and support some worthwhile causes, is what I was looking for.
That’s what being a Rotarian means to me so far. Just as long as I don’t have to wear shirts like Stewart…

Commercial Litigator by day and a nice guy by night.  Recently described by a client as “the worlds best lawyer” I was looking for an opportunity to keep my ego in check and to give something back.

Rotary is a chance for me to meet new and like minded people who want to make a positive impact.

I have been welcomed into the Rotary Club of Leeds White Rose by a great bunch of people and look forward to contributing to the success of the club, making new friends and hopefully making a difference.

I joined Rotary nearly a year ago as one of my passions in life is to do worthwhile things with interesting people and Rotary certainly ticks the box for this. I also run a social enterprise that connects businesses with charities which is again very in line with Rotary’s values.

Being a member of Rotary I have met a great set of people both in my own club and from other clubs, been on some great events, heard from some fascinating speakers as well as had the opportunity to help a number of really deserving causes.

Having grown up in the shadow of Rotary I decided to take the plunge about two years ago and make a contribution. Rotary to me is about giving my time to help and spend time with like minded people. I am a proud Husband and Father of two grown up children and have recently started a new career as a craft designer inspired by my previous life as a landscape gardener and plumber.

I enjoy Sailing, Running, Cycling and Reading.

“I moved to Leeds, from Edinburgh, in the summer of 2011 and very soon joined Leeds White Rose.  I had never been involved with Rotary before but I found a club full of fun people, who are committed to helping the local Leeds charities, and giving something back to their local community.  The fact that they very often do that with a glass of wine in their hand made it all the more attractive.

Away from Rotary, I run my own Wealth Management company, providing specialist advice to the small business community, and I am a supporter of Hull City football club.”

I joined Rotary as I genuinely believed if you cut me in half their values were already calved inside. By joining Rotary, it has propelled me forward and given me the platform to do more in the community and really make a difference. Meeting with a group of like-minded people who all bring a different skill set to the table makes our club so strong and gives us the drive to support our community in ways I could have only imagined before becoming a member. I love meeting different guests each Wednesday morning and hearing talks about amazing individuals, charities and learning some very interesting facts!! It’s also great to just have a social and spend time with people outside of work and make some great lifelong friendships, particularly with people I wouldn’t have met in my every day to day life.

I would urge everyone to come and visit us and discover what a great thing Rotary is. We are keen to grow our club in both members and friends. 2016 is going to be an amazing year for Rotary and a fabulous year for Leeds White Rose!

I joined Rotary to follow the path of fellowship and friendship with other professionals who aim to have a consistent approach driven by interests, passions and beliefs in high ethical standards to help build relationships and goodwill , which in turn helps to develop better and stronger communities within our own region but also nationally and internationally.

Connecting with like minded individuals creates a culture of responsibility which is key to the success of the club and creates a common goal of service before self

Becoming a Rotarian has been a fantastic experience for me and I love all that Rotary is about.  Having breakfast each week with likeminded people is a great way to start the day and we have some inspirational speakers coming to share their stories.  Our Club is extremely friendly and we like to have lots of fun whilst involving ourselves in many community activities.
